Owlgebra — Math Help, Step-by-Step

Owlgebra LLC ("Owlgebra", "we", "us", "our") operates this math-learning service. This policy describes the current individual-account service and retained records from earlier learner, household, and parental-consent features. Owlgebra is designed for independent learners age 13 or older in the United States. Existing account relationships, consent records, and privacy-access protections are also covered here; this audience description does not mean those records or protections have been removed. We take privacy seriously, especially the privacy of children. This policy explains what information Owlgebra collects, how it is used and disclosed, how long it is kept, and the choices available to learners and parents. Privacy rights depend on the laws that apply, including the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the EU or UK General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA), and other applicable laws.
The Short Version
Depending on the features used, we collect:
Photo metadata protection: Before Owlgebra sends a problem photo for reading or uploads a support screenshot selected through our image tools, the app creates a processed copy from the visible pixels on the user's device instead of sending the original source file. This process is designed to discard embedded source metadata such as precise GPS coordinates, camera or device model, original capture time, original filename, embedded thumbnails, and EXIF, IPTC, or XMP fields. If Owlgebra cannot create the sanitized copy safely, the upload is blocked rather than falling back to the original image.
Metadata removal does not remove personal information that is visibly part of the image itself. Names, faces, school names, addresses, handwritten notes, or other details visible in the pixels can still be processed if they are included in the selected area. Users should crop to the math they need and avoid including unnecessary personal or sensitive information in photos and screenshots.
Image storage and access: Choosing and cropping a math photo keeps it in the current browser page until you ask Pip to read it. In this version, the prepared pixels go directly to the reading function and AI service, without creating an uploaded file or public image link. The local preview is released when you leave Solve, refresh, close the page, remove the photo, or change learners. Switching browser tabs alone does not clear it. A request already being processed may finish after departure. New photo solves save the confirmed problem and tutoring in History, not the image. Check the transcription carefully: it may not preserve every visual detail of a diagram. Keep your original worksheet if you will need that picture later. This does not delete older saved images. Base44 and AI providers may retain request data or operational logs under their own terms; we do not claim immediate erasure of their processing records or backups.
Owlgebra does not save the new photo's pixels in browser local or session storage. Confirmed problem text and saved tutoring may remain in browser recovery state or account records. To check that a photo transcription was confirmed for the correct account and request, Owlgebra may also keep confirmation records containing hashes (digital fingerprints), identifiers, extracted relationship facts and confirmation metadata, not a stored copy of the photo. Page-only handling is not a promise that Base44 or AI providers retain no processing copies.
Older photos and support attachments: Optional support screenshots are uploaded when you attach them. These attachments and previously uploaded math photos use Base44's public-link storage. Anyone with the file link may be able to view the image without signing in to Owlgebra. Account access controls do not make those file links private. Images may remain stored even if a solve is not completed or an attachment is removed. Removing an attachment clears it from the current form; it does not erase the hosted file. Account deletion does not delete those files or confirm that their links stop working. We have not established an automatic expiry for these uploads. For an image-deletion request, contact privacy@owlgebra.app; provider assistance may be needed. Do not send passwords or sensitive documents with your request.
COPPA data categories for children under 13: Depending on the features used, these categories include persistent identifiers (such as user, learner, session, request, and device or push identifiers), first name or nickname, grade level, household linkage, math problem and tutoring content (including visible image pixels and voice transcripts), answers and progress, activity and timing telemetry, streak data, historical point and reward records, and parent contact and consent information. We do not ask a child for an exact date of birth, home address, phone number, or precise geolocation. Our infrastructure and payment providers may process an IP address or coarse location/security signal as needed to deliver and protect their services.
Use Me → Feedback to report a problem, suggest an improvement, or share feedback. Support & help also provides a contact form. A submitted report is not a public post. Authorized administrators can review the report and, when needed, linked internal feedback-triage or developer-review entries to investigate and respond. Those entries may contain your message, relevant learning context, and attachment links. The public-link warning above still applies to uploaded screenshots.
Resolved tickets and screenshot deletion: Resolving or closing a support ticket does not automatically delete its screenshot. Attachment links may also be retained in linked developer-review records. Owlgebra currently needs Base44 Customer Care assistance to remove an existing hosted screenshot. Contact privacy@owlgebra.app to request deletion; we can help identify the upload without asking you to resend the image or sensitive information. Removing a link from Owlgebra is not confirmation that the stored file has been deleted. We distinguish removal of an app link from provider-confirmed deletion of the stored file. We have not established automatic upload expiry. Provider backups and previously downloaded copies may require separate handling. These limitations do not limit privacy rights or response deadlines under applicable law.
If a submission's outcome is uncertain, the app may keep the message, attachment link, and report reference in session storage in that browser tab so it can check the result without blindly submitting a duplicate. Closing that tab, signing out, or clearing browser data removes the local recovery copy; it does not delete a report already received by Owlgebra. Avoid sending passwords, card details, or unnecessary personal information.
Previously saved Check My Work / Mistake Coach sessions and eligible learning evidence may remain in account history under the retention, access, export, and deletion rules below. Math Pad is available in supported quiz, practice, and guided-study activities; written steps and feedback remain associated with the selected learner and the activity where they were submitted.
We do not sell or rent personal information, use student data for behavioral advertising, or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. Educational analysis and personalization described above are used to provide the tutoring service, not to market to the learner.
Pip's learner memory: Educational summaries are built with programmed rules and kept specific to a learner profile, rather than generated as AI personality or learning-disability profiles. Summaries may be refreshed after activity or by scheduled maintenance. A compact relevant summary may be included in an AI tutoring request; tutoring can continue without that personalization when evidence is insufficient or memory cannot be safely retrieved for the selected learner.
Where required, our legal bases include providing the requested service, consent (including parental consent and optional integrations or notifications), legitimate interests in security and service improvement, and compliance with payment, tax, safety, and other legal obligations.
We do not sell or rent student data or disclose it to third parties for their own marketing. We disclose only the information reasonably needed to operate the requested feature, administer the account, protect the service, or comply with law. Current provider categories and recipients include:
Authorized administration and review: Owlgebra's authorized administrators may access relevant account, learning, support, and diagnostic records to help with a reported issue, protect the service, or review tutoring quality. This is separate from the existing linked-account access described below.
Existing linked-account access: Stored household and parental-consent relationships can authorize access to linked learner profiles, learning records, privacy tools, and billing controls. This does not mean parent progress reports or in-app family rewards are available. Linked learners do not receive access to a sibling's private profile or to household billing controls. A parent does not automatically receive access to an independent student's records. Existing ownership and consent checks continue to apply to preserved records and privacy requests.
Google Sign-In data handling: When a user chooses Google Sign-In, Owlgebra uses information provided through Google and Base44 authentication, including the account email, to authenticate the user and create or identify the Owlgebra account. Google Sign-In and Owlgebra's optional Calendar integration use separate authorization flows.
How we use Google Sign-In data: The email address is used to create and identify the Owlgebra account, send essential account and consent communications, and—if the user initiates checkout— prefill and associate the Stripe transaction. It is available to the account holder, an authorized household manager where applicable, and the service providers described in this policy as needed to operate the account. We do not use Google Sign-In data for behavioral advertising.
Google's role: Google Sign-In is governed by Google's Privacy Policy and Terms of Service. Owlgebra's use of information received from Google is limited to the purposes described in this policy. Users can revoke Owlgebra's access to their Google account at any time through their Google Account permissions page. Revoking access does not automatically delete the Owlgebra account; use the in-app data deletion tools described in this policy to remove your Owlgebra data.
Deterministic math, AI, and image reading: Supported problems use programmed math rules. Other tutoring, image-reading, coaching, quiz-generation, and checking tasks may send relevant problem text, student work, conversation context, an uploaded image, or a compact learner-memory summary through Base44 to Google, OpenAI, or Anthropic models. Selected image-reading paths also use Google Cloud Vision. A deterministic math result does not mean that a related photo or tutoring feature involved no external processing. Personal information included in submitted text or visible image content may be processed with it; please avoid unnecessary sensitive information.
Progressive loading: For supported deterministic lessons, Owlgebra can return the checked answer and core teaching steps before requesting optional practice or alternative explanations for the same authorized learner session. This changes the order in which content appears; it does not make every feature offline, remove account access checks, or mean that all related requests avoid external services. Process-local math caches hold reusable math content, not a grant of access to another learner's records.
Provider processing and retention are governed by Base44's arrangements and the providers' applicable terms. Base44 publishes its infrastructure and AI subprocessor directory. Owlgebra's dedicated AI-invocation log records model, timing, fallback, confidence, and outcome information rather than full prompts or responses. Tutoring history and support or quality-review records can separately contain submitted content and feedback.
Provider use of content: Owlgebra uses Base44 and third-party AI providers to process submitted problems and images. Base44 states that data on non-Enterprise plans, including our Elite plan, may be used for AI training. We have not confirmed how that policy applies to each type of Owlgebra submission or the retention periods used by every provider. We therefore cannot guarantee that submitted content is excluded from training or deleted immediately after processing. Please avoid including names, contact details or other sensitive personal information in submitted problems or images.
Google Calendar: Calendar access is optional and uses a separate connection flow from Google Sign-In. If connected, Owlgebra reads upcoming events from your primary calendar, which can include events not created by Owlgebra. The app receives event identifiers, titles, start and end times, and links to display upcoming events. When you create a study event, its title, description, and scheduled times are sent to Google. Disconnecting stops new access; events already created in the calendar remain until the user removes them.
Processing location: Owlgebra data is hosted through Base44 and, unless a different region is configured, may be stored in the United States. Base44 and other providers may process information in additional countries using contractual or other safeguards required by applicable law.
Facebook and Instagram: Owlgebra maintains public pages on these Meta services. Visiting a page, interacting with an ad, or sending a social-media message is subject to that platform's own privacy practices. If you message Owlgebra there, we use the information you provide to respond. Avoid posting children's names, learning records, account details, or homework images in public comments; use in-app support or our support email for account help. Owlgebra has not installed the Meta Pixel on this website or configured it to send learner activity to Meta. This is separate from the operational analytics described above.
Owlgebra may advertise its service on Facebook and Instagram. Those platforms process ad interactions and provide campaign reports under their own practices. Ad views or clicks do not by themselves establish an Owlgebra signup or learning activity. Our current website does not use the Meta Pixel to report site conversions; this does not mean the website has no analytics or that Meta does not process activity on its own services.
We may also disclose data if required by law, to enforce our terms, investigate fraud or abuse, or protect the rights, property, or safety of Owlgebra, our users, or others.
We keep account, learner-profile, household, and learning-history records while the account is active so tutoring, saved-work review, purchases, and authorized privacy access continue to work. Accounts configured for granted parental consent are assessed for an inactivity warning after 60 days and deletion after 90 days. Other eligible non-administrator accounts are assessed for a warning after 335 days and deletion after 365 days. These are Owlgebra's configured periods, not deadlines imposed by privacy law. Qualifying recorded activity includes problems, practice evidence, quiz activity, Ask Pip, Guided Study, study blocks, Core Math, SAT/ACT simulations, and evaluated concept checks for the account or its owned or linked learners. Signing in or merely viewing a page does not necessarily reset this clock. Scheduled checks may run later than the threshold. Inactivity deletion requires a recorded warning for the current inactive period and at least 30 days after that warning is accepted for sending. Email acceptance does not guarantee inbox delivery. If the warning or activity cannot be verified, the scheduled check postpones deletion.
Operational request ledgers, caches, quality telemetry, notification subscriptions, consent records, internal support or feedback-review items, and security records are retained only while reasonably needed to deliver the service, prevent duplicate charges or requests, investigate errors or abuse, document consent, and meet legal obligations. Payment, tax, refund, chargeback, and fraud records may be kept for the period required by law or by Stripe's financial-services obligations.
Base44 analytics and platform logs are also subject to the provider's policies and arrangements with Owlgebra. We have not established a separate automatic expiry or verified purge date for those records. Provider-held records may require separate handling for an access or deletion request; contact us using the privacy details below. Clearing browser storage does not by itself delete analytics already received by the service.
Subscriptions and account deletion are separate: Canceling a subscription does not delete your Owlgebra account or saved learning work. Use Manage Billing to cancel renewal and the privacy tools below to request account deletion. Stripe may retain transaction and tax records under its own legal and financial-services obligations even after an Owlgebra account is deleted.
Access, export, and deletion tools: Independent users can download an export of core account and learning records or request deletion of their active Owlgebra app records and login from Account → Data & privacy. For a complete access request, correction, or an export item not included in the self-service file, contact privacy@owlgebra.app. If a user cannot sign in, deletion instructions are available at owlgebra.app/delete-account. Parents can request access to or deletion of records for accounts they consented to through the secure parent-access link or by contacting us. Parents do not receive access to an independent student's account merely because the student is age 13-17. We will complete verified requests within the time required by applicable law, subject to records that must be retained for legal, payment, security, fraud-prevention, or dispute purposes.
Backups, uploads, and review records: Deletion removes the account's active app records and access after successful completion. Deleting authorized account or learner source records also removes their linked in-app feedback-triage and developer-review entries. Older review copies whose source can no longer be identified may require support-assisted handling. Underlying hosted uploads are not deleted by the self-service account-deletion action; see Image storage and access. Provider backups and separately held incident-review, dispute, or legal-retention copies require separate handling. Their removal depends on the applicable provider process and retention requirement; we do not promise a verified purge date for every system. We do not use copies retained by Owlgebra for new tutoring, advertising, or unrelated purposes.
Although new signup is for people age 13 or older, COPPA protections continue to apply to existing under-13 records where required. Parents have the right to:
To exercise these rights for an existing account, email privacy@owlgebra.app. We may ask for information reasonably necessary to verify the requester's identity and relationship to the child. A verified parent may review the categories and specific information maintained for the child, export or delete it, and revoke consent to future collection or use. Revoking required consent may deactivate or delete the child's account because the service cannot operate that account without the necessary data.
New signup and individual setup are for people age 13 or older in the United States. They do not offer new under-13 learner profiles or parent-managed accounts. Existing under-13 or provisional records may still contain an account email, parent contact details, account identifiers, consent status, and earlier verification records. Removing the old signup path does not erase those records or waive their protections. Individual setup cannot clear a pending or denied consent status or a pending under-13 setup restriction. Parents can contact us to request review, export, deletion, or withdrawal of consent for records they are authorized to control. We verify identity and authority before acting on those requests.
We do not condition a child's participation in any activity or prize on the disclosure of more personal information than is reasonably necessary to use the app.
Depending on your location and the law's applicability, rights may arise under the EU GDPR in the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR, Switzerland's Federal Act on Data Protection, the CCPA in California, the Utah Consumer Privacy Act, or other privacy laws. The rights below are subject to the conditions and exceptions in the applicable law; not every right applies to every request:
To exercise these rights, use the in-app tools (Account → Data & privacy), the in-app support form (Support & help → Contact support), or email privacy@owlgebra.app without signing in. We may need to verify your identity and authority over the requested records. We will respond within the deadline that applies to your request. For access requests, this is generally one calendar month under the EU or UK GDPR, or 45 calendar days for a CCPA request to know, with extensions only where permitted and with the required notice. You may also contact your applicable privacy regulator about a concern.
We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards designed to protect personal information, including HTTPS transmission, authenticated access, role and household access controls, image-metadata removal, and checks on parent authorization. Public image links are an exception to sign-in-based access restrictions, as explained above. Independent students' account access is scoped to their own data. Household-linked learners can access their own learning profile, while the household manager can manage linked profiles and family controls. Full card information is handled by Stripe rather than stored by Owlgebra. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Owlgebra uses local or session storage and platform authentication cookies or tokens to keep users signed in and remember necessary preferences and temporary state. Depending on the feature, the device may retain theme and study-break preferences, active and cached learner-profile state, selected SAT/ACT track, difficulty and optional test date, a last typed problem, Math Pad or historical coaching recovery work, recently used math keys, temporary study-time counters, Kid Mode, request recovery, and short-lived parent billing authorization. This matters on shared devices; sign out and clear browser data when needed. If push notifications are enabled, the browser also supplies a push subscription. Native Base44 page-name counting and SDK activity analytics are enabled in this version. The SDK stores a browser-generated session identifier in local storage when available and can associate activity with the signed-in account. Automatic events include background initialization, approximately 60-second heartbeats, and session-duration events; existing custom feature events are also enabled. A tab-local account marker helps count the first checked walkthrough after setup once in that tab. The SDK uses the URL pathname and may include the referrer's origin and path, along with supported campaign or click-attribution parameters. This version strips query strings, fragments, and URL credentials from the SDK's referrer field and current-page origin header. This does not change links needed for sign-in or account recovery, and it does not remove information already received by a provider from earlier versions. Authentication endpoints still receive the information needed to complete their requested action. Owlgebra uses these analytics for service improvement, not behavioral advertising. This change does not add session recording or an advertising pixel. Authentication requests, learning records, and necessary service logs remain separate. Clearing browser data may sign the user out or remove local drafts and preferences but does not delete the Owlgebra account; use the in-app deletion tools for that.
In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify affected users and relevant authorities without undue delay and in accordance with applicable law.
We may update this policy as the product, providers, or law changes. We will provide appropriate notice of material changes by email, direct parental notice, or in-app notice before the change takes effect when required. If a material change affects how a child under 13's information is collected, used, or disclosed, we will obtain new verifiable parental consent when the law requires it. The "Last updated" date reflects the most recent revision.
